Jewish Warsaw

There was a time when a common citizen of Warsaw was not surprised to see a Jew walking down the street wearing his typical overalls, a skull-cap (yarmulke) and long side locks. It was also not surprising to see a rabbi with a fox coat and hat rushing to one of many Warsaw synagogues or, to hear a quarrel of two stockbrokers discussing their business in Yiddish. Just before the Second World War, people of Jewish origin made up thirty percent of all the population of Warsaw. Barbaric cruelty by German occupation during the war reduced that number to almost zero.

Welcome to our walk through centuries of the old and the lost world of Warsaw-Jewish culture, tradition and history!
